I will be voting against the Queen's Speech because:

❌ It doesn’t act with the urgency the climate emergency demands]

❌ It lowers food safety standards

❌ It fails to properly fund the NHS

Every day more than 250 shop workers are attacked and up to September 2019, there have been at least 42,000 violent and abusive attacks on shop workers. This is clearly unacceptable. 

There are now more than 50 types of products that are restricted by law and shop workers are expected to enforce the law. Staff often pay the price by being on the receiving end of violent and abusive behaviour from customers. 

Nobody should face violence at work. The laws on the protections of shop workers need to be strengthend.

The bedroom tax policy does not work.

On one estate, the Wenlock Barn estate in Hoxton, 74 families are hit by this policy and they do not have an option to move to a different property.

If the Prime Minister was serious about his desire to be a one nation Conservative, it is a policy that he should abolish right now.

Today I voted against the Withdrawal Agreement Bill, which:

❌Weakens workers’ rights, consumer and environmental protections
❌ Scraps legal protections for refugee children
❌ Paves the way for a no deal Brexit.

This is what the Tories can do when they have a big majority.

I ran to be Speaker of the House of Commons to highlight the culture of poor management and bullying of staff in Parliament. There are too many staff who are fearful of speaking up.

I will continue to pursue this issue and am grateful to the trade unions and staff for their input.
