Under legislation passed in 2019, the UK is legally bound to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. But in a recent report published by the Public Accounts Committee, the committee has concluded that the Government still has no clear plan for how the transition to net zero will be funded. 

 

Hackney Council has been leading from the front with its bold and radical plans to combat the climate emergency. But despite the Government agreeing on the need for urgent action, it has not followed through with any detailed plan on how it will deliver and fund policies to reduce carbon emissions. 

 

Consumers need to be encouraged to make greener choices but too often the Government is failing on the delivery of infrastructure that would support the right choice. 

 

The Government needs to take a leaf from Hackney’s book and follow through with detailed plans that will deliver on its headline announcements.
