I pressed the Prime Minister during Prime Minister’s Questions about the chaos in the Home Office (see here). In all my years as an MP, I’ve never seen worse treatment of people who are trying to get visas or other documents through the Home Office. The delays are unacceptable and having a real impact on people’s lives. But we’ve also got a Home Secretary who has leaked sensitive information and is overseeing inhumane conditions at the Manston reception centre for asylum seekers. She needs to go.

The Public Accounts Committee published a report on public sector emissions. The big global meeting where leaders meet to coordinate the urgent next steps we must take on the climate emergency, COP27, is fast approaching. It’s embarrassing that as we approach this our progress on public sector emissions is so low down the scorecard. The Government must do better. See here to read the report in full and see here for a summary.

I was pleased to visit the Brewhouse and Kitchen in Hoxton this week to hear their concerns about the rising cost of living and energy bills. I’m pressing the Government to do more to support our struggling hospitality industry. If you think your local pub deserves recognition, then why not nominate it for the Community Pub of the Year awards? See here for further details. The deadline to nominate has been extended to Monday 21 November. You can also nominate by emailing me the details of the pub you wish to nominate and a brief reason why it deserves recognition.
