Boris Johnson attended his final Prime Minister's Questions this week and was met with a standing ovation from his MPs who only two weeks ago were calling for him to resign. Conservative MPs have also selected the two final candidates to be the Prime Minister's successor - Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister's former Chancellor, and Liz Truss, the Prime Minister's current Foreign Secretary, both continuity candidates. We need a general election and a fresh start.

 

The Public Accounts Committee pressed senior official at the Department for Work and Pensions on its customer service and the high levels of fraud and error. The department needs to improve its performance and our committee will continue to press on these issues. Updates on the inquiry will be published here.

 

The record-breaking temperatures this week underlined the pressing issue of climate change. Too often the Government hides behind headlines while failing to take proper action.
