In July a number of constituents wrote to me to raise their concerns about keeping our high food standards in any trade deal with the US.
I recently received this response from the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Victoria Prentis MP.
Whilst I welcome the Government reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high food and agricultural standards in future trade deals, I remain concerned that this principle was not enshrined in law in the Agriculture Act. I’ll continue working with my frontbench Labour colleagues to press the Government to protect our high food, environmental, and agricultural standards in any future UK-US trade deal.
