Level up Hackney

The Government unveiled a number of bills at this year's Queen Speech aimed at 'levelling up' the country. However, levelling up must include inner city boroughs like ours. Hackney is the seventh most deprived local authority area in the country, but the Government is choosing to prioritise more affluent areas in its levelling up agenda.

The Government’s proposed bills will do nothing to enable councils to build social rented housing, to give better rights to renters, or to provide a proper stepladder for people to purchase their own home. What the Prime Minister describes as 'fiscal firepower' are merely headlines, with no plan to solve the real problems that people are facing. I'll keep pressing the Government to not leave Hackney behind.
