On this important day normally I meet with others in Hackney and have the privilege of hearing from survivors of the Holocaust. This year, due to COVID-19, I attended a virtual memorial event and filmed a video on this year’s theme “be the light in the darkness.”

This theme asks us to reflect on the different kinds of ‘darkness’ many face today, for instance, identity-based persecution, misinformation, or denial of justice. ‘Being the light’ is a call for us all to act in solidarity with these victims and work to eliminate injustice wherever we see it.
