Energy bills

Increases in the global price of gas have seen energy bills rising. Next month, Ofgem will announce the new Energy Price Cap for April 2022 onwards. According to some estimates, bills could rise by 46 per cent.

I challenged the most senior civil servant at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on how departments are working together to support low-income households during this time. See my question and her response above. You can watch the meeting in full here

I have also been working with my Labour colleagues to press the Government to implement a range of measures to reduce energy bills. This would include removing VAT on energy bills for a year from April and expanding and increasing the Warm Homes Discount. See here for a transcript of our recent debate on this.

I will continue to press for better support.
