Meg calls for respect

Meg today called for respect for shopworkers.

Meg visited the Co-op store at Gainsborough Studios, New North Road to meet with shopworkers and hear their stories.

A recent survey shows that over a third of shopworkers are verbally abused every month in their workplace. A quarter of staff suffer abuse weekly and one in ten are verbally abused on a daily basis.

Meg said, “Everyone has the right to work free from abuse including shopworkers. Local shops are a vital part of our communities and staff have every right to work in safety.”

Meg is urging retailers and the local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership to work together to help protect shopworkers from abuse.
